After successful completion of this module, students will be qualified to:
- describe genetic and cytological principles of plant breeding
- give an overview on (i) general breeding methodology, (ii) established methods for breeding of new crop varieties and their maintenance breeding, and (iii) breeding approaches for solving specific issues
- identify seed of 40 important agricultural crops without using any auxiliary materials
- describe fundamental techniques of seed production (propagation, harvest, seed certification, processing)
- discuss the relevance of a secure seed market sector with respect to food security - Key competences:
