In the lectures, students are introduced to the biology of microorganisms with a focus on bacteria, archaea and protozoa. The module will cover the microbial cell structure and function, diversity, physiology and ecology. In addition, references to bacterial communities are established.\r\nThe practical course covers the basics of microbiology with a focus on culturing, plating, bacterial characterization and PCR technique.\r\n

Through the lectures and exam preparation the students learn how to acquire and structure knowledge and information and to have a critical and analytical thinking. During the practical course the students will have the opportunity to implement what they have learned in the lectures, to work independently in the laboratory and to improve their skills in critical thinking and problem solving.
