The legal system plays a crucial role in shaping economic structures and processes. lt dictates and guarantees the fundamental economic freedoms of the market players and sets the framework in which individuals and companies act economically. Basic knowledge of the legal system is essential for economists if they want to make efficient decisions. The lecture "Fundamentals of Public Law" gives an introduction into constitutional law and therefore deals with the relationship between the state and private economic operators. The contents of the lecture include the structural principles of the Basic Law, the state organization, the different types of legal actions and regulatory mechanisms of the state, the functions of the state organs, as well as the economic fundamental rights. Furthermore, basic knowledge of administrative law is taught in the course of the lecture. In this context, one focus will be on the administrative act and the possibilities of legal protection for citizens and companies. Finally, the lecture also includes the introduction into European law, which considerably influences our legal system. The contents of the lecture will be illustrated further by means of practical case examples in an accompanying exercise course.
