This module is based on Physics I and extends the basic knowledge of physical processes in Life Sciences. The second part focuses on the following topics:
- electromagnetism, definition of electric and magnetic fields and description of their forces,
- atomic and molecular physics,
- a short course in quantum mechanics,
- nuclear physics and radioactivity.
As in Physics I, the module consists of a 2-h lecture, a 1-h exercise course, and a practical course. Particular emphasis is set on the description of the interaction between radiation and matter. After the performance of this module, the students will be capable to apply additional laws from electrodynamics and quantum mechanics to key scientific problems in connection with nutrition and food science as well as biotechnology.
