Membranes are necessary and integral part of any biological cell, creating a closed environment in which cell functions can be localized. The biophysical, biochemical, and molecular basics of membrane function resulting from this, will be discussed in the lectures in detail. After having done the basics we will proceed to more specific questions as there are membrane transport processes, structure of membrane proteins, pharmacology of these and others.
Neuronal structures are controlling organisms, and their function is strictly based on sensory input processing, data processing, and the creation and output of effectors-signals. A major part of these functions is using electrical signals, action-potentials. Thus the main part of the lectures will be focused on the mathematical, physical and electrophysiological basics of action-potentials, as well as on discussing the necessary molecular machinery for this task. Following this, questions of sensory physiology, the assembly of neuronal cells and of self-organization and pattern-formation in neuronal systems will be discussed in some detail.
The practical part starts with recalling some details about electrodynamics and optics and then will mainly present standard methods being used membrane ? and neurophysiology. - Comments:
