Professional competences:

The students have in-depth knowledge of German history of the 20th century. They know fundamental concepts of welfare its measurement and its develpoment in the 20th century. They know fundamental political and economic problems of the Weimar Republic, the causes of the Great Depression, structure and problems of the "economic miracle" of the Third Reich as well as the reasons and backgrounds of the "German economic miracle" between 1945 and 1970 and the the different, competing explanations. With economic models and detailed knowledge regarding the economic changes, they can explain why the "German economic miracle" was a phenomenon unique to the era. They are able to reproduce the main changes and their causes and reasons in light of the current international scientific debate, to view them critically, and to evaluate their importance for today's situation. The students can apply economic models to historical issues and thus learn important analytical capabilities for working on current issues, as well.
