When passing this module the students understand biochemical characteristics of proteins, nucleic acids, sugars and lipids and gain insight into state of the art analytical methods. They practice the purification of a protein and the detection of protein glycosylation. They characterize enzymes by determining enzyme kinetics and activity, and obtain insight in the use of enzymes in analytical quick tests. Students analyze the transcriptional activity of selected genes and learn how microarray experiments are performed. They also use high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for separation and quantification of biological molecules.
- Key competences:
-
- carry out scientific experiments.
- precisely document and present test results. - Comments:
-
Maximum number of participants: 24
- eLearning:
- Course in ILIAS
