The course offers an introduction to the empirical literature in the area of public economics. The goal of the course is to learn to read and critically assess recent empirical literature in public economics. Thereby, the course teaches the core empirical concepts. A special focus lies on the topics of redistribution and public goods.
An exercise class accompanies the lecture. The exercise class trains the skills necessary to work empirically. The statistical software package Stata is introduced and during hands-on exercises, students learn to apply empirical methods by replicating existing studies from the field of public economics.
To facilitate the understanding of working empirically, the students are required to write a short research paper that is part of the final grade. - Literature:
