The lecture discusses theories of the development and dependence of the synoptical Gospels, especially the "Two-Source Hypothesis". The individual profile of Mt, Mk and Lk is discussed and the individual evangelists' editing in their works' historical context of origin is acknowledged. Typical genres of the synoptic tradition (parables and miracle stories) are described and larger compositional parts (infancy story, Sermon on the Mount, passion narrative) are studied with regard to their function in the structure of the respective Gospel.
