The objective of the module is to gain profound knowledge about the microbial communities (microbiota) inhabiting the intestinal tract of animals and humans. Deep insights in the phylogenetic structure and metabolic pathways of the microbiota will be obtained. The interaction between the microbial members and between the microbes and the host will be examined. Nutrition strategies to influence and reshape the gut microbiota will be discussed. Microbiological topics will be accompanied by the introduction of methodological issues (Omic technologies). \r\nThe seminar will encourage the students to deepen their knowledge within this topic and to improve their presentation skills.
- Schlüsselkompetenzen:
-
The following key competencies will be reached: comprehension of complex microbial communities and their function for animal and human health; basic knowledge of state of the art of Omic technologies; preparation of scientific papers and presentations; experience in DNA and protein extraction, PCR.
- Anmerkungen:
-
Registration of the participation is required and is to be made at ILIAS. Participants have to choose one of the given topics for the seminar at the first lecture date. The list of topics will be posted at ILIAS before.
