The students reach an adequate knowledge of the international economic relations in the last two centuries. They overview the political and technical principles of growing commerce, increasing capital flows and migration. They know which political and economic implications were given by the progressive integration of markets and they learn to understand and criticize econometric studies. The students of Earth System Science shall recognize that social systems are of similar complexity as natural systems.
The module gives an overview of the international economic relations in the last two centuries. Amongst others, the following questions are con-sidered: what were the political and technical principles of developing commerce, increasing capital flows and rising migration? Which political and economic implications had the progressive integration of markets? What was the reason for the deglobalization between 1914 and 1945? Is there a relation between globalization and global convergence and/or between globalization and growth?
