Inhalt:

Students will be introduced and work with several issues relating to current debates on farm animal welfare, including:
- sociological concepts for society and social differentiation
- the formation of institutions within a society that are related to farm animal welfare
- the role of epistemological philosophies in farm animal welfare discussions
- the role of different welfare concepts in current (national and international) conflicts farm animal welfare conflicts
- the formation of production and trade standards (including welfare labels)
- the role of socio-cultural determinants in human-animal relations in Western and non-Western societies
- differences in the form of media coverage on animal welfare between societies
- societal concerns regarding animal-human interactions on farms
