Molekularbiologisches Arbeiten an kleineren Projekten und spätere Präsentation in Form eines wissenschaftlichen Posters.
Mögliche Projekte:
Evolution of bacteria?
Q: What are the aims of synthetic biology? How is the introduc-tion of new traits into bacteria achieved? What were the experiments performed in the IGEM competitions? What could be a feasible path for man-made evolution in bacteria?
Approach: Transfer of foreign DNA into E. coli
Evolution of germline?
Q:What are the differences between maternal and zygotic germline formation? Where and when is vasa expressed in germ cells of frogs, mice, flies and crustaceans?
Approach: in situ hybridisation, immunochemistry
Evolution of mesoderm:
Q: If mesoderm is a conserved germ layer, how does the di-versity of modes of gastrulation lead to mesoderm formation? What is the migratory route of mesoderm cells in frogs, flies and crustaceans?
Approach: Cell labeling and time lapse
Evolution of Signaling:
Q: Notch signaling controls diverse processes such as fly neu-rogenesis and vertebrate segmentation. How is the pathway manipulated and what is the outcome of manipulations?
Approach: Characterize Notch in Drosophila, knock-down in Parhyale
