The students are familiar with basic concepts of rural sociology, development sociology and cultural anthropology, and are able to use them to understand important social and socio-cultural dimensions of agricultural development. Topics to be covered in this module include social exclusion and marginalization in rural communities, social conflicts in agriculture, customary land tenure, the role of traditional authorities (chiefs), and agrarian movements. The module will also enable students to understand and address the challenges of social development approaches, such as community-driven development and social protection measures.
