- Builds on module M5101 "Poverty and Development Strategies" and focuses on the role of institutions in rural development policy. Students learn to conduct literature search and to write and present a scientific paper.

Institutional economics, in particular with respect to following themes in rural development policy:
1) Land markets, land use rights
2) Agricultural credit, microfinance
3) Vertical integration of smallholder farmers in value chains and access to inputs (e.g cooperatives, contract farming) - Key competences:

Literature search and review/synthesis in a scientific paper
After the lectures, students learn to deepen their knowledge by studying on their own related scientific articles, and write a seminar paper and present their findings in class. - Comments:
