- Relation to other Modules:
- This module is based on background knowledge provided e.g. in the courses „Allgemeine Umwelt- und Tierhygiene“ and „Spezielle Tierhygiene“. Similar background is also provided in the course “Environmental Microbiology, Parasitology and Microbial Ecology”. It extends and complements topics discussed in “Tierkrankheiten und Tiergesundheitslehre“ and „Food Safety and Drinking Water Quality Related to Zoonoses in the Tropics and Subtropics“.

Students should learn to critically read and assess current literature. Specific aims are an understanding of the peer-review process, knowledge of new and emerging infectious agents, better understanding of and more in-depth knowledge of methods for the detection and characterization of infectious agents, as well as critical evaluation of literature sources.

Critical evaluation of scientific primary publications. Researching of scientific literature. Critical evaluation of scientific methods. Use of English and expansion of professional English vocabulary. Working and critical discussion in a group.
