Students who have successfully passed this module will be able to diagnose major bacterial diseases of the vascular system in crops, using different methods for amplifying genetic markers, sequencing and analysing nucleic acids for the characterisation of diseases. Furthermore, they will acquire knowledge on pathogens, virulence factors, hosts, vectors and phytosanitary strategies. For this purpose, they will also have a deep and extensive knowledge of the handling of databases, software and methods for in silico and in vitro analyses of nucleic acids in lectures and exercises.
