Overview of the basic molecular mechanisms driving embryonic and imaginal development in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. We practice the handling of genetic databases, e.g. to predict gene structures, develop methods and experimental approaches, to search stock collections, to capture virtual fly development. We analyse genetic interactions and epistatic relationship, consequences of gene mutations on signalling pathways and gene activity using reporters, RNA and protein as read out. We investigate mutant phenotypes of loss and gain of function mutations and perform mosaic analysis.
