Professional competences:

Students will:
1) Have an overview on the application of large scale simulation models used in the analysis of agricultural markets and policies and understand which types of questions can be dealt with in different model types.
2) Understand the complexity of scenario formulation in large scale simulation models.
3) Understand driving factors (model mechanisms, parameters) of model results.
4) Be able to distinguish between conclusions which can and which cannot be derived from model results.

Comments:

This module consists of two modules of the "Doctoral Certificate Program in Agricultural Economics" (http://www.agraroekonomik.de/Doctoral_program/index.htm), each of which receives 3 ECTS credits:

1) "Implementation and Interpretation of Policy Scenarios in Partial Equilibrium Models of the Agricultural Sector" (see here: http://www.agraroekonomik.de/documents/Modulbeschreibungen/M7100-Britz-Grethe-Implementation-Interpretation-PEM.pdf)

2) Any of the following four modules:
a. Modellgestützte Politikfolgenabschätzung im Bereich der EU-Agrarpolitik (Kleinhanß et al., vTI)
b. Global Trade Analysis Using the GTAP Model (Brockmeier et al., Hohenheim)
