Initially, some important functional groups and reactions that are crucial for a proper understanding of organic chemistry will be repeated. This is followed by presentation and discussion of the most important classes of organic substances as well as selected compounds of the Earth system. Their formation, properties, and (degradation) reactions will be discussed as far as they are rele-vant to the Earth system.
