In this introduction the students get an overview knowledge: Central basic terms and concepts of political science systems analysis are discussed. These include the differences between parliamentary and presidential democracies and the concepts of majority and consensus democracy. The emphasis is on the analysis of the most important aspects of governance in the Germany. These include the constitutional principles of the Basic Law, the central institutional components and their interaction (Bundestag, the Bundesrat, federal government, state and cooperative federalism) and the interest intermediation system (especially political parties, the media, associations). Furthermore, political attitudes and behavior patterns of the population (micro level) and their causes are discussed.
