Two core questions with which international relations (IR) has dealt since its beginnings are at the centre of the module "International Relations". Firstly, why do countries conduct war? And secondly, why do countries cooperate with each other? In the context of their time, scholars have given different theoretical answers to these questions and argued about their controversial positions. Hereby, they shaped the core theoretical terms and developed the empirical research methods of the discipline.
Today when political scientists argue about the dynamics of international conflicts, European integration, multilateral negotiation processes or the requirements and duties of global governance in areas such as international security, development and environmental policy, they do this on the basis of this knowledge which has been passed on in the scientific community.
The module "International Relations" provides a historical-systematic and problem-oriented introduction into the discipline IR: The lecture conveys the necessary theoretical and methodological basic knowledge.
