This course discusses the economic aspects of current issues in education, combining theoretical and empirical analysis. Topics include basic human capital theory, empirical issues in determining the true rate of return to education, intergenerational transmission of human capital, the provision of employer financed training, and the effectiveness of public sector sponsored training programs. We are especially interested in the implications of economic research for public policy.
